NEW PARTNER ANNOUNCEMENT – AKUMA SPORTS
Marathon Kids UK is very proud to announce our brand-new partnership with Akuma Sports. Established in 2008, Akuma Sports was founded by brothers Warwick, Daniel, and Thomas Aldersley. Created from a passion for sport and a desire to deliver a simple but reliable solution for quality. They embarked on a journey to change the way kit purchasing was done in the UK by bringing manufacturing in-house and having full control over what is delivered.
We wanted to find a like minded company to us, and we found that straight away with Akuma. We knew that with Akuma, we were going to join the same mission of trying to fight back against childhood obesity, to tackle mental health problems for children and to get kids to love being physically active.
Christopher McShane, Managing Director of Marathon Kids UK
Akuma began their hunt for a charity to work with earlier in the year. Through links within the company, details of Marathon Kids UK where given to the team and they found that we as a charity ticked every box. We both share a love for sports and an active lifestyle, as well as wanting to cared for the children of today. With talks beginning in the summer months, we are delighted to announce the partnership to the world.
We put a lot of time and effort into finding an amazing charity that we could align and grow with – we’re thrilled to have found Marathon Kids UK. We wanted to partner with Marathon Kids UK because they’re all about the next generation’s health and happiness.
Thomas Aldersley, Director and Co-founder of Akuma Sports
Marathon Kids UK Run Australia Challenge
As part of the new partnership, a team of ten staff members at Akuma HQ are joining our new corporate challenge to run the length of Australia, the challenge having been set by Marathon Kids UK ambassador Nikki Love, who is aiming to set a female world record in May 2023. The male record currently stands at 67 days, 2 hours, and 57 minutes – Nikki aims to complete this in 63 days.
The team of 10 at Akuma HQ, and a team from Marathon Kids UK will be working on running the same distance, 2,450 miles, over a 10 week period. The equivalent of 93 marathons will be undertaken by the two teams with regular updates posted across social media platforms. It is hoped that many other will join the challenge with groups and businesses across the UK also taking up this amazing challenge and feeling the benefits of moving more whilst also raising funding for the charity.
To celebrate the challenge the design team at Akuma have created a special and limited running shirt that can be purchased from the Marathon Kids UK shop.
