KEEP FIT THRU LOCKDOWN
Double Paralympic Gold Medallist Whitehead backing Marathon Kids to ‘Keep Fit Thru Lockdown!’
November 13th – Marathon Kids has teamed up with Nike athlete Richard Whitehead MBE in order to launch a new ‘Keep Fit Thru Lockdown’ initiative to find the fittest school in the land and keep children across the UK moving, with Nike also offering up to £1,000 of sports equipment for the winning school.
Lockdown has seen exercise opportunities limited for lots of children at weekends, meaning what they do during the school week is so important to their mental and physical wellbeing, something that four-time world T42 200m champion and double Paralympic gold medallist Whitehead – who also held world records for double amputees in the half and full marathon – is passionate about supporting.
‘I’m excited to be supporting the Marathon Kids UK ‘Keep Fit Thru Lockdown’ initiative at a time when the physical and mental wellbeing of children is of such importance. Kids love to compete as part of a team, as well as individually, so I really hope schools take this opportunity to sign up to the initiative and keep their kids moving during school time,’ he said.
Marathon Kids wants schools to register for the ‘Keep Fit Thru Lockdown’ campaign – which runs from November 13th until December 2nd – and it really couldn’t be simpler to get involved.
You’ll need to:
- Measure your course and keep a record of how many metres it is
- Keep a tally of how many laps each child has run between November 13th and December 2nd
- Send us an email with the total number of children that have participated and the total distance they have collectively run (to be added into the competition all data must be with us by midnight on Wednesday 2 December 2020 at the latest, any data received after this date/time will not be counted. Please send to email@example.com)
The winning school will be based on the highest average distance ran per child between the dates of November 13th and December 2nd 2020 inclusive and will be announced on Thursday, December 3rd 2020.
INFORMATION: We look forward to you joining the initiative, but if you need any advice or assistance in the meantime, please call Marathon Kids in schools coordinator Julia Travis on 07711 349592 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
